The presidential inauguration will take place on January 1, 2023. Large crowds are expected to gather across the country, particularly in the capital, Brasilia, where the official ceremony will take place. Due to the large crowds expected in Central Brasilia for inauguration events, citizens are encouraged to avoid the area if not participating.
Following the election result in October, demonstrations and road blockades occurred across the country. There is an ongoing risk that such protests could occur again around the inauguration and traffic is expected to be very heavy due to police check points and road closures. United States citizens are reminded that rallies and protests can turn violent and directed to review the Brazil Country Information Page and closely monitor local news sources.
