Media and police report that there were violent protests and road closures near the TV Tower (Torre de TV) area of central Brasília on Monday night, December 12. At this time, sporadic protests are ongoing in the general vicinity, some roads remain closed, and there is a heavy police presence in the area.
Demonstrations and strikes are common in urban areas, may occur unexpectedly, disrupt transportation, and may escalate into violence.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly become violent.
