Brasilia, October 30, 2023: Exercise Southern Vanguard 24 (ExSV24) is an annual U.S. Army South planned and directed, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) sponsored exercise at the operational and tactical levels designed to increase interoperability between U.S and Western Hemisphere forces, and in this instance, Brazil.
Serving as an example of cooperation between the United States and Brazil, ExSV24 is a combined training exercise that will take place this year in Belem, Macapa, and Oiapoque, Brazil. Official opening ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 6 and a closing ceremony will convene Nov. 16.
U.S. Soldiers from Army South, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 7th Special Forces Group, 1st Security Forces Assistance Brigade, and Brazil’s State Partner, the New York Army National Guard, will conduct pre-deployment activities, deploy to Brazil, and conduct air assault operations alongside more than 1,000 Brazilian army personnel assigned to 52nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Brigade.
U.S Army South is the land component for SOUTHCOM and ExSV24 supports the SOUTHCOM initiative to enhance multinational and regional cooperation, trust, and confidence through consistent engagements with allies and partners in the Western Hemisphere.
Exercises like this are planned years in advance and are not connected to any real-world event.
