First English Olympics to take place in September

From September 2 to 27, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil will parter with EduSim, the National Council of Secretaries of Education (Consed), and Nova Escola to promote the English Olympics 2019.  The English Olympics 2019 aims to encourage English language learning in Brazil.  The event, which is free of charge, is focused on motivating teachers and students from elementary, middle, and high schools in Brazil to use English in their daily lives.  Applications for the Olympics are already open, website: www.olimpiadadeingles.com

The great differential of this competition is that it will bring English content aligned to the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) through learning technology, the ChatClass, which works entirely on WhatsApp.  Students will practice writing, listening, and especially speaking through the tool.  Teachers will be able to participate instudents’ learning progress in an easy and practical way.

The competition will have a single phase, and students will receive new exercises daily to score points.  In addition, there will be group activities that teachers can facilitate in class with their students, and which will score points.  Schools, teachers, and students will receive digital certificates for participation and prizes for the most active engagement in the course.  English teachers with the highest performing classes will earn prizes from RELO Brazil, including online courses with American universities through the American English E-Teacher Program and the top prize for 25 teachers for a one-week English language and methodology immersion sponsored by RELO Brazil.
