FULBRIGHT and CAPES bring 120 English Language Assistants to Brazil

These 120 language assistants will help improve students’ English competencies in undergraduate courses at 38 Brazilian higher education institutions

The Fulbright Commission and CAPES bring 120 English language assistants to 38 public and private higher education institutions in Brazil. These Americans are recent college graduates, with some background in education and classroom teaching. The objective of this project is to help undergraduate students who are pursuing degrees in English language in Brazil to improve their linguistic skills and increase knowledge about American culture. The group will remain in Brazil for nine months.

The selected institutions will benefit from these academic assistants who, with the guidance of course coordinators, will develop activities in the area of ​​English language teaching, assist faculty with English pronunciation, history and culture classes and also assist  during English language proficiency tests.

The program is sponsored by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in partnership with the Fulbright Commission and the US Mission in Brazil. In addition, it is one of many initiatives of the Mission that seeks to promote dialogue and mutual understanding between Brazilians and Americans.

About the Fulbright Commission:

Since 1957, it has offered scholarships for postgraduate students, professors and researchers who want to make a difference in their communities. Over the past six decades, it has sent more than 3,500 Brazilians to the United States and brought more than 2,900 Americans to Brazil.
