Health Alert
Brazil has confirmed cases of COVID-19 in all 26 states and the Federal District, and the largest number of confirmed cases in South and Central America. Brazil has declared a national emergency at the federal level and most Brazilian states as well as the Federal District have declared statewide public emergencies and implemented social distancing measures. Brazil has implemented a 30-day ban on all foreigners entering Brazil by air with limited exceptions for those that fall into one of the categories here. Brazil closed its land borders on March 22.
International commercial flight options currently exist in Brazil. U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States should make commercial arrangements as soon as possible unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. The U.S. government does not anticipate arranging repatriation flights in Brazil at this time.
As of April 3, there are 16 U.S. bound flights per week from Brazil (Sao Paulo GRU and Campinas VCP) operated by the following airlines: United Airlines (the only airline with a daily flight), LATAM, and Azul. These flights are subject to change and will likely continue to decrease over the next few weeks. Domestic flights within Brazil also have been drastically reduced. While the major airport in each state currently provides flights to Sao Paulo, nonstop/direct flights between Brazilian cities are extremely limited.
