Salary:                 Ordinarily Resident (OR):  FSN-7* – R$ 53,449.00
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR):  FP-7* – US$ 41,206.00

*Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

This position is being advertised simultaneously with the Trainee Level, FSN-6, FP-8.

The U.S. Mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Local Guard Coordinator in the Regional Security Office (RSO).

Basic Function of Position 

Incumbent is responsible for management and oversight of the local guard force, development of the local guard components, facility defense and reaction plans; logistical planning and financial plans; and assists in the coordination and execution of security drills.

Qualifications Required

1. Education:  Completion of high school is required.

2. Experience:  Progressively responsible experience in the commercial security guard business, civilian or government police, or military is required.

3. Language (This will be tested):

  • Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required.
  • Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Portuguese is required.

4. Job Knowledge (This will be tested): 

  • Strong knowledge of physical protection, standard security practices and procedures, and deployment of community-style policing, mobile patrol models and defensive security plans is required.
  • Working knowledge of budget formulation and tracking is required. 

5. Skills and Abilities (This will be tested): 

  • Good writing skills in order to prepare complex reports and plans, prepare written justification statements for program budgets, requests for work orders and guidance about program performance, funding, or other issues is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suites and other specialized software is required.

Selection Process:

Additional Selection Criteria:

  1. Management may consider the following when determining successful candidacy:  nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
  2. Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.  Current OR employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
  3. Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
  4. All candidates for employment with the US Mission must pass a background check or security investigation. Any employment offer with the US Mission is contingent upon a candidate’s ability to secure the necessary security clearance.
  5. Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
  6. Current Ordinarily Resident employees of the Mission may only apply for positions at or above their current grade level.
