The NGO Cores do Amanhã brightened the walls of U.S. Consulate General Recife on February 26 with a carnival-themed mural in the garden patio. Cores do Amanhã is an organization that supports youth and women in the community of Toto in Recife by providing classes in dance, drumming, capoeira, computers, and of course graffiti, among others. Professional graffiti artists Adelson de Santana and Fagner dos Santos sketched out the design and provided the finishing touches while five of their students helped fill in the color.
The consular section invited the artists, both professional and budding, to a presentation on cultural differences between the United States and Brazil while enjoying a typical American lunch of pizza. Later, the Public Affairs section presented Director Jouse Barata with a donation of books for their small lending library.
Cores do Amanhã funds most of its community activities through profits raised from graffiti art and donations. They may be hired by contacting their offices through the website.
