The U.S. Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, Mr. John Creamer, the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, Mrs. Liliana Ayalde, and the Assistant Naval Attaché Captain John Morris, received nearly 400 guests on the evening of July 2, tocelebrate the 238th anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America.
The reception was held at Clube dos Caiçaras, a private club, founded in 1931, located in a small natural island in the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. Among the guests were representatives of the state and local governments, the Brazilian military, civil society and the consular corps in Rio de Janeiro.
After Consul General Creamer’s remarks, the local U.S. Marine Corps detachment honored the flags in an official ceremony. Ambassador Ayalde also presented made remarks, and invited all the guests to join her in a toast in honor of the strong bilateral ties between the United States and Brazil.
The reception was followed by the presentations of Samba Jazz Trio, which once again delighted guests on the occasion of the Independence Day celebration with a repertoire of American and Brazilian music. To highlight the importance of sports in building bridges between countries, guests were invited to tour a poster exhibit featuring Brazilian athletes playing in the United States as a part of the U.S. Mission Brazil’s “Sports for All” programs.
