The U.S. Mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for two positions of Nurse in the Health Unit (HU).

The work schedule for this position is:  Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: The selected candidate must be able to start work within a reasonable period of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications, or their candidacy may not be considered.

Supervisory Position:  No

Duties:  This position functions as the Post’s clinic charge nurse and/ or primary health care provider. Provides the full range of professional nursing services to clients. The position is located in the U.S. Consulate General Sao Paulo Health Unit (HU) and is under the direct supervision of the Foreign Service Medical Provider (FSMP) from the Embassy Brasilia Health Unit and the Regional Medical Officer for Mission Brazil.

Qualifications and Evaluations

EDUCATION:  Applicants, who are under consideration for hire on the local compensation plan, must be graduated of professional nursing school with a current and unrestricted COREN license or have the ability to obtain a COREN license within 24 months of hire.

All EFM candidates, eligible to be hired on an FMA (Family Member Appointment), must be graduate of professional nursing school with a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from the US, Puerto Rico, or Western European equivalent.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Experience working in an ambulatory medical setting is required. Previous experience teaching at least three health promotions activities is required. i.e.: HIV prevention, CPR, safe food services, healthy lifestyle, stress management and relaxation, emergency first aid, etc., is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge in management and procurement of expendable medical supplies and equipment for ambulatory care clinic.

A good working knowledge or experience of current health promotion recommendations in the U.S. populations is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English is required. Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Portuguese is required.  (This may be tested.)

SKILSS AND ABILITES: Ability to administer adult and pediatric immunization program according to current CDC standards is required.

Must be familiar with U.S. Nursing standards of care.

Must be able to perform basic Word processing on the computer.

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

Note: Only qualified U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFM) (as defined below) of U.S. Government employees assigned to post under Chief of Mission (COM) authority are eligible for consideration.  A U.S. Citizen EFM does not have to be residing in country to be considered, but the sponsoring officer under COM authority does have to be officially assigned to post and the AEFM must be on the travel orders.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
