Secretary Michael R. Pompeo met yesterday with Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo of Brazil. They noted the positive momentum in the U.S.-Brazil partnership following President Bolsonaro’s March visit, including increased cooperation on defense and security issues. They discussed our growing economic ties and the potential benefits of the Technology Safeguards Agreement to both our countries. They reaffirmed a commitment to defending human rights and democracy in Venezuela and confronting malicious actors such as Cuba that undermine democratic governance in Venezuela and elsewhere in the region. Lastly, they committed to promoting transparent foreign investment with good governance and sustainability standards.
