Security Alert – Bomb Threat in Rio Downtown

Location: OAB-RJ building (Order of Lawyers)

Event: Local media is reporting an on-going law enforcement response to a bomb threat at the OAB-RJ building (Order of Lawyers) in Rio’s downtown area. Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams are on site and the scene is active.

We recommend that U.S. citizens avoid the area until local law enforcement clears the scene.

The OAB-RJ building is approx. 750 meters East/Northeast from the U.S. Consulate General Rio de Janeiro, near the intersection of Avenida Presidente Wilson and Avenida Marechal Camara. There is no direct threat to the U.S. Consulate General facility. 

Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.  Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
