Media reporting and postings on social media indicate a large demonstration is planned for Recife on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Reporting indicates that the protest will be on Avenida Boa Viagem in front of Padaria Boa Viagem beginning at 10:00 am.
U.S. citizens should avoid the protests and areas where large gatherings may occur. Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. U.S. citizens in Brazil are urged to monitor local news reports and to plan their activities accordingly. U.S. Consulate General Recife will continue to monitor the situation and provide further guidance as required.
