Specialist in US Foreign Policy and writer Walter Russell Mead visits Brazil

He will give a talk, open to the public, on the Crisis of World Order on June 1.

Walter Russell Mead, a renowned American expert in international relations and diplomacy, will be in Brasília from May 31 to June 3 to discuss issues of US foreign policy and international security. He will meet with diplomats and students of the Rio Branco Institute and attend a workshop and debates with academics, teachers and students from the University of Brasília. On Wednesday, June 1, he will give a talk on The Crisis of World Order at the University of Brasília. The talk will be open to the public.

Mr. Mead is Distinguished Scholar in American Strategy and Diplomacy at the Hudson Institute, James Clarke Chace Professor of International Relations and Humanities at Bard College, and editor-in-chief of American Interest magazine, being one of the most renowned scholars on the subject in the United States. He is also the author of several books, including Special Providence: American Foreign Policy and How It Changed the World, published launched in 2004 and considered by historians and diplomats to be one of the most important publications in this area. He is a founding member of New America, a think tank that analyzes public policies on national security, technology, education, economics and other issues.

Mr. Mead writes regularly fort the website “American Interest” on various topics, such as international relations, religion, politics, culture, education and media. Over the years he has contributed to several American publications, from Mother Jones and GQ to the Wall Street Journal. He is also an influential editor of books on foreign policy and often takes part in national and international radio and television programs.

The visit by Walter Russell Mead is part of the US Embassy’s Speakers Series, which develops high-level dialogue between Brazil and the USA on issues of mutual interest. The first event in the series took place in Rio de Janeiro, in March 2016, with Ed Chow, an energy expert, about the future of global energy.
