Brasilia, July 13, 2021 – The Embassy and Consulates of the United States of America in Brazil are deeply saddened by the loss of one of Brazil’s most preeminent diplomats – Ambassador Paulo Tarso Flecha de Lima, who passed away at the age of 88 on July 12 in Brasilia. Our deepest sympathy to his family, former colleagues, and friends who will all be in our thoughts.
Ambassador Flecha de Lima led a distinguished career for over four decades, serving as Brazilian Ambassador to the United States from 1993 to 1999 as well as Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Italy, and as the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, among other postings. Throughout his public service Ambassador Flecha de Lima championed Brazil’s foreign relations and the promotion of Brazil’s economic and social development. Through his dedication, Flecha de Lima sought to bolster the prosperity of Brazil and forge close ties with peoples around the world, and especially with the people of the United States. He was an inspiration to scores of Brazilian diplomats as well as those who had the privilege to work with him over his exemplary career.
