U.S. Ambassador arrives in Brazil

Official statement of the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley
Brasília, February 1, 2023

Boa noite a todos, and my sincere thanks for making the effort to be here at this early hour.

It is a great honor and privilege to come to Brazil as the personal representative of President Joe Biden at this moment in our strong relationship. I am pleased to be joined by my son, Conor, who will accompany me here during this first week. I bring warm greetings from President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary Blinken, and from the American people to President Lula and his government, and to the Brazilian people — our friends and partners.

As I work to carry out President Biden’s ambitious agenda with Brazil, I bring the full support of the White House, the State Department, and all agencies of the U.S. government to expand and deepen our collaboration. And I would like to stress – Brazil has no better partner than the United States. Whether it be in supporting shared and inclusive economic growth, promoting peace and security, tackling deforestation and climate change, partnering on human rights, creating increased opportunities for women, or protecting and strengthening democracy, the United States is a natural and committed partner for Brazil.

But most important, we are friends who think alike on a number of crucial issues. I am eager to get to work immediately, and to ensure that we take advantage of every opportunity to realize the full potential of our partnership.

I thank you, for being here at this early hour and once I present my credentials, I look forward to meeting with Brazilian media to discuss the myriad of opportunities that our partnership presents.

Muito obrigada e bom trabalho a todos.
