U.S. and Brazil sign MOU to support efforts of the Ministry of Regional Development

The MOU to enable an American consultant to assist the Ministry in Infrastructure Projects

Brasilia, May 10, 2021: On Monday (10), the U.S. Ambassador, Todd Chapman, in a ceremony with the Minister of Development, Rogério Marinho, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR) and the Office of Technical Assistance from the U.S. Treasury (OTA). The signing aims to bring an OTA consultant to the MDR to support efforts and boost investment in priority infrastructure projects through privatizations and concessions in Brazil.

U.S. Ambassador Todd Chapman says that he is “delighted to see how much interest there is between the Ministry of Regional Development and U.S. government agencies in sharing experiences and know-how. One of my top priorities here in Brazil is to promote areas where the U.S. can be Brazil’s best partner”.

The arrival of the OTA adviser is the result of cooperation between the U.S. Treasury and the MDR in June 2020. Minister Rogério Marinho signed the memorandum with the Treasury Secretary Larry McDonald, who attended the meeting virtually, while Ambassador Chapman signed the copies in Brasilia as a witness.

Ambassador Chapman ended his remarks congratulating those involved in the agreement. “I congratulate Minister Marinho and Acting Assistant Secretary McDonald on establishing this partnership today. We are proud that the new consultant will bring the best traditions of the U.S. government and Treasury partnership to his assignment to the Ministry of Regional Development”.
