Selective Service Registration is how the U.S. government collects names and addresses of men ages 18 to 25 in case a national emergency requires the rapid expansion of the Armed Forces. It is a civic and legal responsibility.
With few exceptions, all male U.S. citizens must register. This includes those living overseas at the time they turn 18. In addition, all male aliens between the ages of 18 and 25 who live in the United States and its territories must register.
Registering with the Selective Service does not mean you are joining the all-voluntary Armed Services. No one has been drafted since 1973. No one can be ordered for induction by Selective Service unless ordered by Congress and the President.
