U.S. Consulate General Rio de Janeiro Builds Fence

The U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro is building a fence which will circle its building in Downtown Rio, providing enhanced perimeter security to the American and Brazilian employees.

These security enhancements are in compliance with Department of State’s latest worldwide security procedures for diplomatic posts abroad.

The plan was fully approved by the Rio de Janeiro city government, and will not disrupt traffic in the streets surrounding the Consulate building. Pedestrian traffic, however, will be interrupted in the inner sidewalk of Presidente Wilson Avenue, in front of the employee entrance, being redirected to the outer sidewalk.

The visa line remains unchanged on Rua Mexico.
