U.S. Embassy offers free English course for journalists

The course can be taken on four different dates throughout the year

Brasília, January 3, 2024: The Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Brazil, through the Regional English Learning Office (RELO), offers an English online course designed for journalists, an opportunity for journalists from all around Brazil to enhance their English language skills and excel in their profession. Those interested should have an intermediate level of English to follow the course satisfactorily.

With an unlimited number of participants, the course offers participants the opportunity to study at their own pace and on four different dates throughout 2024:

  • January 2 – March 18
  • April 1 – June 17
  • July 1 – September 16
  • October 7 – December 23

“We believe that empowering journalists with English skills is crucial in today’s globalized media landscape,” said Luke Ortega, U.S. Embassy and Consulates Spokesperson. “Language fluency enables journalists to access information from diverse sources across borders and communicate effectively with international audiences.”

The participants will learn about the history and principles of journalism; how to research, pitch and interview; words in print; broadcasting the news; and new media journalism.
