U.S. Mission to Brazil Recommends Travelers Needing U.S. Visas Apply Prior to Start of the Olympics and Paralympics

Due to an anticipated increase in workload during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the U.S. Embassy in Brasília and the Consulates in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Recife will provide limited visa services in August and September.  Tourists, students, business travelers, and others needing visas, who are planning to travel to the United States during this period should consider applying for their visas as early as possible and preferably before the end of July, to avoid limited appointments and potential processing delays.

Students planning to start school in the United States in August or September may apply for student visas up to 120 days before their program start date and may enter the United States 30 days prior to the start of the program.  Students should work with their designated school official (DSO) to ensure that their original I-20 form arrives in time to apply for their visas early.
