U.S. publishes a call for proposals for financing projects in Culture, Education and the Media

Selected projects may receive up to 25 thousand dollars

Brasilia, May 22, 2023: The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil are pleased to announce the Small Grants Program 2023 call for proposals to fund projects in the areas of culture, education, and media. Proposals should promote strategic goals and policies, highlighting shared values or best practices and strengthening ties between the two countries. The proposals, which may be submitted until July 31, should not exceed $5,000 for individuals and $25,000 for institutions.

All projects must include an element related to the United States, or connections with U.S. expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) that promote greater understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) are also topics of importance to the U.S. government.

Projects must be aligned with one of four initiatives in the call for proposals: building civil society and human rights capacity, expanding access to fact-based reporting to combat misinformation, promoting entrepreneurship and expanding economic opportunities, and strengthening civil society efforts in environmental sectors.

“As Brazil and the U.S. reinvigorate the Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Discrimination and Promote Equality (JAPER), the two countries will increasingly prioritize projects that include efforts to lower social barriers for people of African and Indigenous descent and to build a more inclusive and equitable world. We are looking for projects that include these principles and practices in the proposed activities, regardless of the central themes or objectives of each initiative,” emphasizes Todd Miyahira, Cultural Attaché at the US Embassy.

The project submission process will be divided into three phases:

  • Phase 1: Submission of online questionnaire;
  • Phase 2: Virtual interview and presentation of the proposal;
  • Phase 3: Submission of complete grant application package.

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates will host informational webinars from June 1-28.
