U.S. seeks partners to develop podcast training project for quilombola communities

Brasília, August 22, 2022: The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil announce a call for proposals to fund an online project to train podcasters from niche markets. The project will train 30 representatives of quilombola communities from different parts of Brazil on the creation, production, monetization, and dissemination of podcasts.

The “These Brazilian Lives” project is an opportunity to develop skills and amplify the voices of the quilombola communities on communication platforms in other parts of Brazil and the world. The culture, identity, and customs of these Brazilian communities can be promoted through high-quality storytelling podcasts produced by their own people, giving them voice and advancing the equity of often underrepresented communities.

The project will focus on theory, practice and the exchange of experiences, including both Brazilian and American podcast perspectives, with the participation of trainers, producers and podcasters of reference from both countries, and also include a three-day in-person event. The podcasts will be incorporated into a nationwide database made available to media outlets and individual users across the country.

Proposals can be submitted until September 19 by e-mail: brazilgrants@state.gov. The complete announcement, with details and prerequisites, can be found on the link: https://www.grants.gov/web/grants/search-grants.html?keywords=quilombolas
