The United States and Brazil Promote Commercial Defense Partnership at the 2nd U.S.-Brazil Defense Industry Dialogue
Washington –The Department of Commerce reaffirmed its intent to broaden and deepen its partnership with Brazil in the defense sector at today’s U.S.-Brazil Defense Industry Dialogue (DID), held on the margins of the Association of the U.S. Army annual meeting, in Washington. U.S. officials from the Departments of Commerce, Defense, and State hosted a high-level delegation of 42 Brazilian government and industry representatives, including Brazilian Secretary of Defense Products Flavio Basilio.
“The goal of the dialogue is to strengthen the commercial partnerships between our two defense industries so that both grow and benefit from the robust relationship already in place between our two militaries,” said Senior Policy Advisor the Under Secretary for International Trade Joe Laroski, during closing remarks.
More than 120 U.S. and Brazilian government and industry representatives participated, underscoring the importance of these issues to both nations. The second edition of the DID focused on advancing the themes of commercial partnership and industrial and regulatory policy.
The DID joint statement highlights several key outcomes from the discussion, including commitments to continue to negotiate necessary bilateral agreements, explore opportunities for concrete commercial partnerships between our two industries; and identify which models of binational cooperation will best spur technological growth between our defense sectors.
