UPDATE: The U.S. Consulate General in Porto Alegre Offers Limited Visa Appointments

The U.S. Consulate General in Porto Alegre resumes limited visa appointments beginning Monday, August 12, while repair work in our consular facilities continues.  American citizen services for U.S. citizens will not be affected. All other sections of the Consulate General in Porto Alegre will continue regular operations. Normal and complete consular operations in Porto Alegre are expected to resume on Aug. 21, 2019.  Please follow our website and social media for updates.

Visa applicants may schedule an interview appointment at the Consulate in Porto Alegre for August 12 or later.  Interview waiver cases, including many visa renewals, will be processed normally. Applicants whose interviews in Porto Alegre were cancelled should reschedule their appointments.  Alternatively, applicants can apply for interviews at the U.S. Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Recife or the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia.  All appointments for visa or American citizen services must be made online at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-br/niv. People with emergency medical travel scheduled should email PortoAlegreNIV@state.gov or schedule an appointment in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, or Brasilia.

Due to the limited number of spaces available, we urge those without urgent travel to delay their appointment until after full operations resume, or to schedule an appointment at the Consulate in Sao Paulo, where operations have been expanded during this period.
