Youth Ambassadors Program: U.S. Embassy announces 2021 selectees

After a series of selective steps, 33 young people from 24 Brazilian states and the Federal District have been selected to participate in the virtual edition of the Young Ambassadors Program 2021

The results include names of young people from 24 Brazilian states and the Federal District, representing the richness and diversity present in Brazil.  In another atypical year and despite efforts, the program won’t be able to take place in a face-to-face format in the United States. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic that plagued the world, the Youth Ambassadors 2021 has been converted to an online format.

As a result, the experience needed to be rethought and innovated. The program will take place between June 14 and August 13 this year, with Brazilian and American Youth Ambassadors joining to participate in activities and workshops on leadership, culture and communication, digital citizenship, social change in their community and globally, and to share, always virtually, some of their history and culture through their families and communities.

In addition, additional activities have been implemented, with the objective of consolidating the knowledge acquired through the exchange of experiences. Activities will be proposed that aim to stimulate the creative and innovative process of the participants, with missions, challenges, and creative hands-on projects.

About the program:

Since 2003, 667 young Brazilians have already participated in the program.  The program has partnership with Brazil’s National Council of Education Departments (CONSED), the State Education Departments, the network of Brazil-U.S. Binational Centers. In addition, it also has the support from the companies FedEx, MSD, IBM, as well as PLT4Way English and Social Inclusion and USBEA – Association of Exchange Alumni. Currently the Youth Ambassadors Program is implemented in every country in the American continent and also has a reverse exchange program for young Americans to represent the USA in Latin America. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world last year, in 2021 the program will take place virtually.
